Spring S’ford Rd 1 / Spring Meeting Medal
Ladies
A glorious day greeted 10 Ladies competing in the Spring Meeting Medal round. The course was dry although putting was challenging with fork marks and some sand on the greens. Sonia Inniss won with a net 73 and by 3 shots from Maureen Slade. Other prize winners were Jayne Maxwell for the best back 9 and Alison Chadwick for the best front 9. Results… |
Men
A pleasant but at time windy spring day saw moderate scoring and for some time Captain Gurpal Sekhon as early clubhouse leader seemed the inevitable winner. There was speculation of a ‘reduction only’ round.
However, a solid 38 from Nick Rogers won the day and there were a couple more 36s from Steve Cross and Greg Albertyn. Results… |
Monthly Medal
Ladies
At last a sunny day in time for this year’s first monthly medal. The winner was Veronica Mitchell with a net 78 and a better back nine than Maureen Slade also with a net 78. Results… |

A pleasant early Spring day saw some truly incredible scoring from Nick Rogers and Mike Smeal fro their 61s. Nick was out in 1 over par and Mike had a very tidy 38 in and out keeping a six off his card. Winner on the back 9 was Mike. Toby Hunt again illustrated his consistency coming 3rd with 65. Results…
CSS was elevated to one over SSS at 66.
Winter Comp Rd 7 / Princes Eclectic Rd 4
Ladies
An elite field of three profited from a really rather pleasant day albeit with rather soggy greens after an unpromising start with heavy rain. Susan Smith was the winner with 35 points. Results… |
Harriet Carr won the cumulative Prince’s Eclectic with a net 70 with Susan Smith just one shot behind on net 71. Final Leader board…

A back 9 count back was needed to separate 3 excellent 43s returned: Mike Smeal 1st, Kerry (1 under par) Sargeant 2nd and Peter Harrington 3rd. Jim Fogarty was DQ for signing for a 2 not 3 at 11. Results…
Scoring was very good generally with CSS being reduced 1 from SSS to 64 (increased to 41 points).
Kerry now leads the Winter Competition, two ahead of Graeme Syme and four from Toby Hunt with just the last round left. R7 Leader board…
Kerry is also confirmed as the Prince’s Eclectic winner by 3 from Richard Owen. Paul Grand, Graeme Syme & Toby Hunt share 3rd place. There were good late runs from Richard and Paul but Kerry was invincible with his 59. Final Leader board…
Winter Comp Rd 6 / Dukes Eclectic Rd 3
Ladies
Although the weather continues to be cold with snow and rain, ten ladies turned out to play the third round of the Eclectic competition on the Duke’s course.
Jini Beacham triumphed with 35 stableford points and Harriet Carr in second place with 33 points. Results…

The winner on a back 3 count back was John Morris from Richard Kenwood – both 39 points. Third was Jim Deissler 38 and 4th Toby Hunt. Playing inspired golf (no doubt from his net 60 the previous week), John made the galleries come alight with a hole in one at the 9th – and treated fellow competitors to the customary drink afterwards in the clubhouse. The high incidence of Category 1-3 players returning within 2 of SSS 66 (38), CSS was actually reduced to 65 (increased to 39 points) with the unusual result of no handicaps being reduced, even to decimal places.
In the associated penultimate round of Duke’s Eclectic, Toby Hunt and Kerry Sargeant are tied with 64 with John Morris 3rd 66. R3 Leader board…

Monthly Medal / Team Event
Ladies
Three teams entered the February team event and the clear victors were Sonia, Susan and Veronica with 72 stableford points. The other teams managed 69 and 68 stableford points and shall remain nameless. Results…
Men
New Vice-Captain John Morris stamped his authority on the field to win by 3 clear shots with a net 60. Indeed, a score in the 50s was on he cards as John stood on the 10th tee one under par…. Nigel Ward & Tony Kopczak took 2nd and 3rd positions with 63s. Results…
Conditions were conducive to good scoring generally but CSS remained at SSS 65.
Annual Subscriptions
Annual subscriptions are due on 1st February. The rate remains unchanged at £50, with Senior members paying £25 (men 65 and over, Ladies 60 and over on 1st February).

4-Ball Better-Ball
Last Sunday following the dinner dance a novel Ambrose Texas scramble was played. The winners by .7 on 56.2 were Messrs. Hunt, Grand, Sargeant and Owen 6 under par from Mandelbaum, Abbott, Cross and Kenwood. At the 17th, the team of Messrs. Eden, Forbes, Myers & Smith recorded an eagle. Results…
