Clapham Common
A windy Sunday for the semi-final of the South London Clapham Common match. The format here is 3 men’s pairs at home and 3 away playing Greensomes Stapleford. The total points home and away are added up to find the winning team.
In tough conditions the home team averaged 37½ and won by 11 points. In tougher conditions at Lullingstone the away team fought well but lost by 16 giving the match to Lullingstone by 5 points overall.
A mere half a point swing in each game would have done it so a very well done – and a big thank you – to all who played. Results…

Rickmansworth Friendly
In our annual friendly a team of 12 played the home leg against Rickmansworth in a four ball better ball matchplay format. We took the opportunity to ‘blood’ some new members to team golf and everyone rose to the occasion. Richmond won by 4½ to 1½ so have a bit of a lead to take to the away match in August. We shall see if it is enough. Results…
President’s Putter
Gina Jillet left no doubt on the result with a hot 44 points on a day that was otherwise difficult for scoring. Results…
The nearest the pin prizes were won by Charlie Whiteman on the 17th and Anne Holding-Parsons on the 18th.
The President offers his heartfelt thanks to the Vice-Presidents Richard and Sheena, the Ladies Captain Susan and the Secretary Peter for their substantial help with the refreshments and marquees.
The Midriffers
Talking of success – the Midriffers – our ladies team of private entrants to the NAPGC Mary Forster Bowl team Stableford competition won their qualifying rounds to reach the national final that was played at Abbey Hill Golf Club.
And they won the final !! Congrats to Alison, Veronica, Gina, Kate, Suzanne and Maureen who all had a hand in the team being crowned National Champions for 2012. With such a relatively small club it is quite rare for RPGC to succeed at this level so our ladies played exceptionally well to make their mark on the record books.
Amida Friendly
We have now settled on an annual mixed match against our friends at Amida and we welcomed them to the Park this year. We are were extremely lucky to be playing in the dry but the howling gale made for some interesting play.
This year we managed to keep up our winning form and scored 3½ matches to their 1½. We look forward to a return match next year at their course. Results…

Monthly Medal
Ladies
On Diamond Jubilee weekend, all bar 3 of the ladies had found themselves something to do that was of more interest than contesting the monthly medal. Consequently, the medal has been deferred to later in the year and Susan, Cheryl & Sheena played a friendly game for a £3 prize which allowed for some experimenting until the last few holes when the result started to get really close and Cheryl’s competitive edge came to the fore. But she was still piped by Sheena who then spent more than her winnings on the drinks!
