JQ Robertson
The first Sunday of June showed signs of heralding the start of summer but the warm, wet weather of the previous weeks made the rough penal for those who strayed off the fairways.
A new signature will adorn the JQ Robertson trophy, with Alan King beating the men’s handicap secretary, Paul Grand, on the back 9 with a score of 42 points. In third place, and continuing his run of form was our junior, Ahmad Al-Bader on 41 points. Results…
With the course changes and the difficulty in organising the games now, the men need to remember to add 3 shots to their scores in a stableford competition on the Duke’s to take full advantage of their shot allowance (although the first lady was in 11th place).

Bogey
Mid-Spring conditions prevailed with the cold north-easterly winds not encroaching from the East. The rough was punishing and all but one green (the fourth) was slow and woolly.
The early clubhouse leader appeared to be Captain Jon but scrutiny revealed marker awarding a win at 10 whereas a half was appropriate. Charles Ajani became the winner 6-up on back 9 count back from Jon. Third was first lady Susan on count back from Ken Ukoko being 5-up. Susan benefited from scrutiny where a 6 at 10 was a win not a half as awarded by marker. Ladies received 4 shots allowance. Results…
Basking in sunshine at new clubhouse, members toasted John Fordham who scored his first hole in one at 16. Well done John!

Platinum Jubilee
Surprisingly, the Bank Holiday weekend offered up a taste of summer although the lush grass on the fairways limited the amount of roll to the extent that CSS went up two shots to 72 for the men and 73 for the ladies.
Conditions didn’t affect either Gina Jillett or Ahmad Al-Bader who both continued their good runs of form to take 1st and 2nd place respectively. Gina took the honours with a net 68 followed by Ahmad on net 70 with Steve Cross one shot further back on 71. Results…
Congratulations go to our only junior (Ahmad) who now joins the ranks of the senior players with a CONGU handicap of 28.

Shaw Cup
An auspicious day in the life of RPGC. Following 9 years of working from our portacabin after the pavilion burnt down today saw the first event to be played from the Chohole Gate location of the new building. With the white board having been transferred across, there was a degree of comfort in being able to see the order of play, if not the first hole.
One result of the changes, was that no one was aware that the men now get 4 shots on the Duke’s course in a mixed competition and that with the forward positioning of the white tee on the 16th (the old 10th) it was a par 4 from there. So the published scores for the men will be different from the ones they recorded on their cards.
The winner of the Shaw Cup and continuing his run of good form is Ahmad Al-bader with 42 points, reducing his handicap by a further 2 shots to 32. In second place was Steve Cross on 40 (if only his football team could do so well!) with Darrin Siiankowski and Nigel Ward one shot further back. Results…
Berry Holding-Parsons scored the only 2 of the day.
