Ladies

Extending her lead from the first round, Ladies’ captain and club champion from 2013, Jayne Maxwell takes the ladies club championship by 6 shots from Val Riziotis in second place. Results…

Scores reflected the continuing challenge of the rough with the round being ‘reduction only’.

In the Handicap Cup, the results were reversed, with Val taking first place on net 153 from Jayne on 157. Results…

For the Pembroke Cup, only 3 ladies completed the 36 holes, but the winner was Susan Smith on net 150 with Alison Chadwick retaining her second place from the first week on net 153. Results…

Men

For the scratch club championship, Pete Davis again scored best in round 2 and is declared the deserved club champion on 160, six ahead of Aidan Hurley. Well done to Pete in his first year with RPGC. Results…

In the junior division Charles-Marie Delpuech maintained his lead from first round to be champion on 180 – four ahead of Phil Flanagan and six ahead of Danny Deprez. Results…

For the handicap result, Pete Davis is winner with 65 & 74 for 139 – four ahead of Arthur Dolby and eight from Charles-Marie Delpuech (NB net 80 off his new handicap 16). Results…

In yesterday’s net competition, an intriguing 3-way tie emerged with 3 players on 74 – Toby Hunt, Pete Davis and Paul Grand. Back 9 count-back determined Toby the winner. Peter Osgood recorded two ‘Twos’. Handicap students will note that former champion Aidan Hurley was cut from 7 to 6 despite a 79. The answer is of course one bad hole – a 12 at 15 reduced to a net double bogey 6 for handicapping purposes. CSS adjustment was +3, just avoiding the reduction only category. Results…

Rickmansworth – Home Leg

Result: 4-2 Win

In one of the clubs oldest rivalries and fixtures we are once again attempting to bring the Cup back to the RPGC trophy cabinet. This is a feat which has alluded us for far too many years. In fact the away team Captain commented that he felt we probably had forgotten what it looked like!

Well needless to say in response to this challenge our Guys played with a courage that would make us all proud to be RPGC members.

The home leg, played on a tough Dukes course, ended 4 -2 in our favour. A heroic effort which sets us up nicely for a very tricky return to the notorious (as Peter would say) “tricky Ricky” in the away leg. This could be our year!

Rickmansworth – Home Leg

Result: 5-1 Win

On Saturday 20th June saw Richmond park play our annual friendly match against Rickmansworth, this match is played on a two leg home and away basis.

This friendly has been played over many decades, with Richmond Park winning the cup back last year for the first time in some time. We are determined to hold onto this cup for a few more years yet.

The teams are made up of 6 pairs each and the match played on a 4 ball better ball format, the day started with the threat of heavy showers but brollies were only needed a couple of times for short showers.

The day ended with Richmond Park winning by 5 games to 1, a good lead to take to Ricky. We each also hold a team sweep which was won with 45 points being scored by two pairs sharing the pot.

A big thank you goes out to all players giving up their Saturdays to represent their club.

The away leg AT TRICKY RICKY is to be played on Saturday 25th July, so all those who are interested in playing in this MUST WIN friendly please book in on Master Score Board.

Another challenging week at the Park with the CSS going up by 1 and only 2 men doing better than it. With the competition being a stableford rather than medal, there were at least almost no NRs, but general scoring reflected the continuing challenge of hitting missing the fairway.

Temporary SSS’ means that the men receive two shots with Phil Flanagan taking first place on 40 points closely followed by Mike Shabani on 39. Doreen Dolby was the leading lady in 8th spot on 33 points. Results…

No birdies on the par 3s were recorded.

Amida

Result: 4-2 win

After a year off we ventured out again to play our annual mixed match against Amida at their course. Well, sort of mixed as from a team of 12 players they produced only two ladies!

We managed a win of 4-2. Good fun as usual and everyone enjoyed playing on their course.

A special thanks from the Ladies Captain.  “Thanks to all those who played: Jayne, Lia, Fiona, Veronica, Doreen and Susan plus those who offered but we ran out of space!”
