Overnight rain continued into the morning dscouraging most from playing. Well done to the 7 who stuck with the conditions esp. to the winner Tom Texido with 34 points and front & back 9 honours (16 & 18); just 2 behind with another fine round was Richard Norden 32 points

There was much rain overnight but fairways still reasonably firm and odd green soft; the weather forecast had deterred a number and in the event 34 competed with just 5 mins sprinkle for the Silver Jubilee.

Winner on the day was Gerard Ouattara with an excellent 64 off 20. A couple of super 67s chased with Gregory Jean-Baptiste the winner on countback from early leader Tony Kopczak. Paul Green, Toby Hunt and Richard Smith had very creditable 68s.

Paul Kamerling’s 71 proved enough for him to win the overall (best 4 from 5 Jubilees) Anniversary Cup on 281 – 3 from Peter N. Harrison and 1 from Charlie Whiteman and Toby Hunt. Well done Paul!

A chilly start for some but otherwise great conditions for golf – dry, not too hot and with sunny periods. Greens had sand-banded and fairways overseeded.

It was greensomes stableford for 25 pairs which can produce some high stableford scores and today was no exception. The winning pair stayed on the leader-board throughout – team Hayden and Perkins who just won 43 points on countback last holes from team Grand and Whiteman.

After some heavy overnight rain the course generally had less run and bounce  = with the greens significantly slower. Dry with sunny intervals that developed.

Scoring generally was above average for the Golden Jubilee. The winner, Tom Simpkins had a fantastic 63 off 19 – 41 gross out and in – and is rewarded with an ESR of -1. 2 behind on glorious 65 was Chris Mellish dropping just 2 shots on the[whites]  difficult back 9. Best woman Sali Davies took 3^rd place with 66 on countback from Tom Laybourn. Mike Assender took  front 9 honours on level par 35 [off yellow] whilst Kerry Sargeant and Umran Ali shared back 9 honours from yellows =37’.

This was 4^th of 5 Jubilees paled so far – just Silver left. Mike Assender and Paul Kamerling are currently tied 293 for the lead whilst Peter N. Harrison and Katharina Katte are tied for 3^rd 304 (and next Charli Whiteman and Kerry Sargeant also tie 5^th -305. Best 4 from 5 counts.

For the men this was 6^th out of 7 comps for the Top Dog  (just Lissaman 3 clubs & Putter plus results of the 2 matchplay KOs left):

Senior division

Little change on leading positions with Will Balakrishnan leading 28 from Alan King 20 and Kerry Sargeant now 18

Junior division

No change with leader Gunnar Sundberg 18 from Richard Inglis16 but Tom Simpkins advances to 3^rd with 12 points from today to 15 just 1 ahead of Peter N. Harrison.

t was a bone dry Prince’s course on a golf-friendly warm windless day.

Winner of the Fred Hawtree Cup was Peter Miller, finishing 5 up, two clear of the field, +3 on the front nine and +2 on the back nine. He may have rued his two pick ups but they didn’t matter. Last year the winner, Mitchell Cohen, finished 7 up, and perhaps the difference in scoring today was the greens, heavily worked on by the greenkeeping staff.

In second was Jose M Gomez. at 3 up by countback, from Teddy Holt and Richard Marriott. Mike Assender came in in 5th, leading those on 1 up by countback.

Women

Another small field for the Autumn meeting (aka September) medal and looks like the conditions suited most. Very impressive 2 on the very long par 3 13th from Katharina. Can’t think that the women have recorded many of these on that hole.
A birdie 4 on the 7th, alongside 5 pars all helped Susan to 1st place with a great 65. Her gross 83 was her lowest round on Prince’s for just over 2 years.
2 shots behind on a 67, Deb is showing the result of lessons and is her best result for 4 years on Prince’s!

Congratulations both, and WHS also agrees that you played really well, Rewarding both of you with cuts of 0.9 each.

Men

Good scoring generally.
Best in senior division came from Richard Smith and a glorious 65; Richard was one under par for back 9 with 2 birdies, Just a shot behind was Kerry Sargeant 67 – Kerry had a purple patch with consecutive birdies at 15 and 16. Richad Owen also had 67 being nipped on countback.
In the junior division Onursal Soyer was best with 66 beating Peter Harrington and Julian James 67s Peter would have been better but for an errant drive at 3rd for an 8 and Julian completed a superb back 9 37.

This was the 7th round [6th played – July abandoned] in the Grand Medal and with just 1 round left:
In the senior division just 3 have completed 5 rounds so Richard Smith leads 343 from Kerry Sargeant just 1 behind 344 then Paul Kamerling 357. In the junior, Nigel Ward 342 leads from Tony Kopczak 360 with 2 others having played 5 – Ian burgess 375 and Gerard Ouattara.

We were fortunate to have a lovely day to play the second round of the M/W Club Championship. The dew for the early starters lifted fairly quickly.
A field of 46 contested the outcome with several players finding the going rather tough.

The net results for the day show no surprise that Richard Young (playing off 27) recorded the best score with his seven under net 65.  Richard last matched his best score over twelve months ago and in turn he matched an identical score another twelve months earlier.  The runner up to Richard was Alison Chadwick (playing off 29) with a four under net 68 and losing out on the countback Sheena Harrington (playing off 19) finished in third place with her net 68. 

For the gross results of the day the senior division Naveed Manazir returned with the day’s leading score, an eight over par gross 79.  Chasing hard was Angus Robertson with his gross 80 and in third place George Taylor finished with his gross 83. 

In the junior division gross Richard Young played to seven under his handicap for the best score on the day with his gross 92.  Stephen Haworth and Dave Cato both finished as close runner ups with a pair of 94s. 

Of course, the final result for the 36 hole event takes account of the two rounds and for 2024 we see that :

• Our senior Midweek Club Champion is Naveed who secured two winning scores of 75 and 79 for an aggregate total of 154.  Angus finished in joint second place with his two scores of 78 plus 80 to record a total of 158, and joining Angus on 158 it was indeed George with rounds of 75 and 83.      

• Our junior Midweek Club Champion is Dave Cato heading the leaderboard with rounds of 89 and 94 for a total of 183.  Colin Price finished as the runner up with scores of 92 and 96 for a total of 188, and Tom Rose was third with rounds of 89 and 104 for his total of 193. 

The women’s scratch was won by Gine Jillett 166 with Sheena Harrington runner-up 177.

The Midweek Handicap Trophy is awarded to the player with the best aggregate net result, subject to one proviso.  Our player with the best aggregate net result was Michael Hayden with his two sub-handicap scores of 64 and 71 for an impressive total of135.

  Unfortunately for Michael he did not meet the qualifying proviso of three midweek rounds played in the period from 1st Jan 2024 and it follows that the trophy will be collected by Angus who was consistent with two net 69s for his aggregate total of 138.  Following Angus were the duo of Naveed and George who shared the runner up position with aggregates of 139.             

A fresh sunny day after rains from yesterday for the Bank Holiday Plate. Greens slowish but mowed.

A sterling performance from the winner Richard Owen 39 points with 2 birdies – the one at 12th being a ‘chip-in’. Onursal Soyer was a point behind on 38 and won back 9 honours 20 in spite of a ‘blob’ at14th. Caroline Stilwell came 3rd with a fine 37 points in another fine round . 3 had 36 points – Mel Dunn. Deborah Potter and Richard Young. Henry Lindesay-Bthune took back 9 honours 22 points.

Well done to Mel for his eagle 3 off whites at 17th his 2nd Sunday eagle this year 9th overall per attached.

Weather was kind but the holes were in the wrong places and even the greens on some holes!!
However, some players found everything to their liking. It’s easy to run up a cricket score if you got into a tight spot as many players found out. The greens were rather slow due to not having been cut for today but I’m sure Dukes greens will be better next week.
Next Wednesday is round 2 on Dukes so we must all pray for good conditions with no rain on the day. Scores will be joined with todays scores. Both Net and gross.

Clouds melted to give a sunny and fresher day than of late for the President’s Putter. Good turnout of 62 considering NAPGC commitments of some and peak holiday season.

As with last week, women featured strongly on the leaderboard with 3 in the top 4 positions; the winner on countback with 41 points was Igor Lanzargorte from Caroline Stilwell. Igor steady on both 9s but an excellent front 9 – 23 points including birdie and NTP at 2^nd (see further below re prizes)  from Caroline. Next on 40 points was Avi Murphy – truly excellent and Avi shares the front 9 honours with Caroline. Reiko Hashimoto was the next woman on 39 points. 5 shared 38 points with Peter Harrison the leader on countback from Tony Kopczak, Alex Catlow, Ben Dickey and Tom Simpkins. A mention for Chris Mellish who had 5 birdies outweighed by 7 ‘blobs’.

Our President not present but 7 novelty prizes as below – and note Ray’s eagle a 9^th– well done indeed! 2^nd men’s eagle at the hole this year and 9 so far recorded [see attached] . Well done Goran for 2 prizes!
