The handicap secretary’s office was impressed with a run of five 3’s from Bruce Cuff and an eagle for the handicap secretary at 15. Bruce’s one over par 70 was enough to take the Grand Medal Trophy, two ahead of Paul Appleton, Martin Wright and Geoff Foreman. Congratulations to Bruce on his achievement, and taking just the minimum 5 rounds to win. Final results…

Autumn Meeting Medal Round, Committee Cup & Barton Bowl Playoffs

In the first part of the Autumn Meeting, the individual medal round, Veronica Mitchell was triumphant with a net 70, six shots clear of Lorna White in second. Julie Smith took the best front 9 (net 37½) and Maureen Slade the best back 9 (net 34). Results…

The first part of the Autumn Meeting is also the second round of the Committee Cup. Though each round was well supported, only 3 ladies played in both rounds! Sheena Harrington held on to a slender lead to take 1st place with 63 stableford points aggregate from Julie Smith (60 pts). Results…

The play-off for the Barton Bowl was also played on 2nd October so Veronica Mitchell was again triumphant with 38 pts from Julie Smith in 2nd (30 pts). Results…

Yellow Ball

Competitors played the team and individual events simultaneously. The winner of the individual event by a margin of 4 points was Bruce Cuff with an exemplary 2 under par 39 points. Results… 

In the team event, Dave Williams, Nick Heale, Chris Wisely and Vic Wadley were victorious with 76 points. Back in the clubhouse, many teams confessed that their yellow ball ‘blobbed’. Results…

Close scrutiny of scores in the JQ Robertson produced a clear winner for this well attended competition – Jon Cooper with 41 points. Monthly Medal

LADIES

The September monthly medal was a close fought contest with Julie Smith just managing to beat the Lady Captain on the Best Back 9, both with net 72’s. Results…

MEN

A 4 under par gross 65 with 5 birdies and just 1 dropped shot at the 16th earned Bruce Cuff the monthly medal with Geoff Foreman putting in an excellent net 65 for 2nd place. Results…

In a rare moment of reflection , the Handicap Committee exclaimed Eureka! in having solid evidence of what score a scratch player under ideal conditions should score (to prevent SSS possibly being increased from 67 to 68 by SCGU).

CSS was reduced by 1 to 66, with Bruce being cut back to playing off scratch and Jim Fogarty now playing off 21. Men’s handicap list

Translating the scores into the Grand Medal Trophy to date, it can be seen that Julian Diamond now heads the field 5 ahead of Paul Appleton. Statisticians will observe however, that Bruce need score only a 75 in round 8 to overhaul Julian – and there are other possibilities as well, naturally. R7 Leader board…
