The Masters Bowl

Posted in Competitions

The Princes course only had 2 Temp greens hence WHS Counting. The course was in good conditions but the green were a little slow. That said Uli Katte found them just to his liking it seems. I am attaching a good scoring report which shows just how dominant he was today, spendid golf indeed.
Peter Harrington was hot on Uli’s tail but after a 9 on the 1st hole and 6 on 18 finished 1 shot back. Paul Green and Chris Jones took 3rd and 4th places.
It was nice to have some sunshine although the wind came up on the back and light showers appeared on the back nine. But not too much to affect the scoring.

Best woman Silvia Bortoli 30 points playing off 9.

Innumerable temporary greens again but otherwise clement conditions apart from a wind that increased as the round progressed.

Easter Sunday Plate

Posted in Competitions

Easter Sunday had a grey start with a chilly wind but it remained dry and eventually the sun came out. And with just 2 temp. greens ( 3 & 5) it was a qualifier for handicapping.

Mel Dunn secured the Easter Plate with 44 points – and an eagle 3 at the par 5 9th; his 44 earned a -1 ESR and cuts his HI from 19.6 to 16.2. Well done. Oz Doyle edged Justin Wildman on back 9 [both 40 points] – Oz having better back 9 22pts wilst Justin better front 9 = 23 pts. Pat Dalton and Raymond Esin followed with excellent 39s.

Best woman Joan Mulcahy 37 points.

Friday Team Waltz

Posted in Competitions

The competition started in cold, wet and windy conditions, and with a disappointing 8 temporary greens on the course, however the sky brightened up and altogether the conditions were not bad for yesterday’s waltz. The conditions were clearly agreeable to the team of Richard, Uli, Cheryl and Paul who produced scintillating scoring of 94 points to win.

Sheena, Tamas, Sean and Paddy were not far behind with 89 points. Julian, Paul and Peter scored well to make 3rd place despite the disadvantage of being a 3-man team.

Midweek Spring Stableford R2/2

Posted in Competitions

The day started with blue sky and sunshine with astrong breeze. The dry spell lasted until the back 9 when the wind became very strong and cold and heavy downpours which made golf very uncomfortable and difficult for some.!!
Peter Miller and Paul Green both recorded 21 points whilst Paul Giles made continued scoring with 20 points to go with his 22 on the front 9.
This was the 2nd round of 2 for the Mid Week Stableford competition and Tamas Ladacs produced a steady round of 36 to top the table with a total of 84 points 3 points ahead of Paul Green. Well done Tamas .

Women’s Spring Meeting 4BBB/Men’s Spring Stableford – Rd2 & Winter comp Rd 6 D2

Posted in Competitions

Women

It is fair to say that a 4BBB generally results in scores somewhat higher than those of today. It was however good to note how much the course had dried out from 2 weeks ago, so much so that they’d managed to cut some of the grass, even if the fairways were somewhat narrow on many holes. Even though there was often much searching for balls even on the fairways (carry often far too much for us)

Thanks to Cheryl for all the prizes and organising our get together after the golf and of course congratulations to Angela and Elisabeth on their 31 point win today. Katharina & Silvia and Seema & Sheena both got 28 points with Katharina & Silvia taking 2nd place on the back 3.

Men

A lovely bright sunny Spring Day with wind dying down. Conditions have improved on the courses – even Duke’s with drying worm casts- always a sign of Spring. Maybe in 2 weeks time we’ll be back on full 18 holes instead of today on composite Duke’s with 6 holes being played twice.

This was second round of the spring Stableford comp and doubled as a 2nd round on Duke’s and 6th in total for the Winter Comp.

Tamas Ladacs again rose to the top to win senior division with 36 points – followed by Aidan Hurley 33 and 2 on 32 – Zach Holmes and Kerry Sargeant.

Mel Dunn was the convincing winner in junior division with 47 points 24 out and 23 back, 8 ahead of James Withers 39 then Paul Green and Nigel Ward 37. Congrats to Nigel for securing first Sunday Eagle at 14th (i.e. 2nd)..

The aggregate scores for the 2 rounds show in the senior division Tamas well ahead with a winning 80 points ; Kamerling put in a spirited performance for 67 and then came Kerry Sargeant 67. Mel Dunn won the junior with 86 points after stunning second round with Nigel 2nd 77 and Tom Simpkins 3rd 74.

In the winter Comp after 6 rounds the senior division is unchanged with Tamas leading 125 from Kerry 116 with 3 on 110 – Paul Kamerling, Ricard Smith and Peter Needham. Paul Green’s 37 today was enough to place him ahead in the junior division fromprevious leaders Tom Simpkins and Gunnar Sundberg 115.

Friday Sweep

Posted in Competitions

Someone above seems to have it in for Richmond Park Golf Club as it rained yet again on our competition day. Despite this it was a mostly pleasant event and temporary greens were down to three for the course with the green on the second hole finally open for business – though many players were spotted hitting their tee shots short and right – muscle memory.

Some good scoring and winner is Andrew Pelser with a huge 47 points. A general play score has gone in and his handicap of 31 should see some movement overnight. Second was Ian Burgess with a hardly less impressive 41 points and Brian Ransom came in third with a very solid 40 points.
