The weather forecast threatened a mid/late morning band of heavy, thundery rain which largely didn’t materialise (certainly no heavy or thundery rain), so the reduced field experienced dry conditions by midday and a lovely sunny, humid day from 12.30pm.

Our clear winner, Justin W (41 points), was the only player to truly master the conditions, finishing 8 points clear of Colin and James (33 points) , in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Justin had 2 birdies (5th and 12th), best front 9 (22 points), equal best back 9 (19 points), best Par 4s and equal best par 3s – so pretty comprehensive !

There was some concern in the clubhouse after the round that groups 5 and 6 had been ‘lost in action’, however they eventually arrived to complete their 5+ hours rounds.

Sweep payout to the top 3 (£9, £6, £3).

Almost perfect conditions for golf at the park today. The greens are drying up rapidly. But the rough was not as bad as in previous months. he fairways were still very helpful for the “shorter” hitters.

Alan played like a King today. His numbers state the obvious: 4 birdies (1,5,11 and 12), 23pts + 22pts, 2 PU’s and 45pts walking off the 18th green. The 2 PU’s prevented from competing/winning (?) in today’s putting challenge. 2 other players are very grateful for that. After a rough couple of weeks Rob W played of a slightly higher HI. He took advantage of the extra shots. 2 birdies (5,17) and 20pts +23pts earn him 2nd place. Chris R had another excellent outing. “Only” 22pts on the back 9 and the countback rule force him to settle for 3rd. Peter G had no eagle today. But 20pts (out)/22pts (in) and 4th place represent a good day at the office. There is some more good news for him a bit later. Jose Manuel G’s round was the mirror image of Peter G’s round. 20pts on the back earn him the last “money spot”. A small shout out to Ed R. He had a better front 9 than Alan K (26pts). He even had 29pts walking off the 10th. The rest was a bit harsher.

Bright but breezy conditions for the Golden Jubilee.

Katharina Katte shot a consistently spectacular 44in 44out gross 88 net 66 to win. 2 chased with 68s -Paul McGrath just edging Gina on countback. Duncan followed with 69.

This was 3rd Jubilee from 4 in the Anniversary Cup and we see 3 women leading – Cheryl continues 1st on 210 now from Katharine 215 and Lia 217. Indeed, these are only players to have played all 3/ not NR’d to date (see breakdown of the scores lower down in the report).

For the men this was also the 5th competition in the Top Dogs:
Brian and Raymond continue to lead senior division with18 pints each; but making a late charge is Kerry who gained 12 points for 4th.
In the junior Paul M now leads on 28 from Dilip 26.

A dry, humid, sunny morning becoming more cloudy and windy as the day progressed.

Scoring was good with 80% of the field scoring points in the 30s. A group of three 38s were looking like taking the honours till Charlie Haines stepped up and entered his score of 40 points, his first ‘win’ with the club. Charlie’s round started with a blob and suffered another blob on the 14th but otherwise was extremely solid. Paul McGrath and Craig Johnstone’s 38s, both ‘early birds’, took 2nd and 3rd places respectively and Seymour Laird followed up his 2nd place on Wednesday with a countback 4th today.

Best front 9 was Seymour’s 21 points and Charlie had the best back 9, also 21 points. James was tops on the three Par 3s (9 points). Richard Owen was within inches of an Eagle 2 on the 9th and Rob Wilhelmsson joins Richard Back at the top of the Friday Birdie Tree.

Sweep payout to the top 4 (£10, £6, £4, £2).

A reduced field enjoyed excellent golfing conditions. Enjoyable temperatures, not the slightest threat of rain were a welcome change to the recent golfing conditions. Recent rains had rendered the greens a lot more receptive than during the previous months. So today felt more like a round of target golf rather than links golf. There was still more than enough roll/bounce on the fairways. But judging distances into the greens wasn’t as tricky as 5-6 weeks ago.

Seymour Laird carded an outstanding score of 62 (Net). This was even more remarkable since he was +5 (gross) after 2 holes. But he steadied himself. The remaining 16 holes were taken care of with a score of +12 (gross). His only regret can best be described in his own words: “I should’ve signed up for the sweep”. Places 2-3 go to early birds and some of the better ball strikers in the club. Both Naveed and  Ross recorded 4 birdies today on their way to scores of 64 (Net). Naveed had the better (net) score on the back 9. So he takes 2nd place. Places 4-5 go to the other players in my flight (good things seem to happen to people in my flight …). Uli had brain freeze on the 1st hole (7). But he showed great poise to record a score of 66 (Net). Alison’s decision to sign up for the sweep really paid dividends today (don’t think HMRC will tax your sweep payments though). 2 snowmen are the only blemish on her card. Else she would’ve challenged for the top honours.

A quieter day after storm Antoni yesterday but still breezy.

Women

The women seemed to be playing a different course from the men who seemed to have no problems today but the scores were all so different from 2 weeks ago and not in a good way!

But well done to Hilary who kept her body warmer on for the whole round which was perhaps the secret. She nearly blew it on the 18th but was fortunate to find her first ball under the trees on the left, rather than being where her 2nd went which was OB, but looking at the 5 shot margin she would probably still have beaten Lia but ended up with 72.

Men

Henry L-B continued his winning form from Wednesday to triumph with a net 63 – winning overall and senior division; Henry was just 2 over par on the back 9. He was pressed by Will B with a remarkably consistent 66 sharing back 9 honours. 3rd in the senior division was Michael Hayden 67.

The junior division was close with 64s from Oz and Capt. John Ahad. Oz just won on countback. Third was Gerard with another good round – 65.
This was the 6th Grand Medal round of 8 and senior division leader is Will B, 12 ahead of Tamas with 328 points; the junior is headed by Duncan 345 from Dilip 349.

A somewhat cloudy but dry day with not much wind and receptive greens led to some good scoring.

Top of the leaderboard was Rob Wilhelmsson with an excellent 43 points and a gross score of 72. Rob had the best front 9 (20 points), the best back 9 (23 points) and 3 birdies along the way. In 2nd place with 40 points was Justin Wildman, playing alongside Rob in the first group, and just pipping 3 players on 39 points: Peter Miller, Richard Norden and Naveed Manazir. Naveed had 3 birdies in his round but it was Peter Miller who grabs 3rd place on countback and scoops a small sweep payout. (£11, £7, & £4 to the top 3 respectively)

Rain had been forecast for the midweek August plate – reduced field accordingly.

Mainly dry for early games but blustery and odd heavy showers developed before continuous rain caught later games.

Early starter Henry L-B had the right idea -after 2 birdies Henry stood 2 under par on the 4th tee [10points] and finished with 37points David C also had good start – being one under par after 3 holes [also 10 points] but was just nipped on countback on the last 3 holes.

Justin W prevailed with best back 9 19 points . All best to Mayumi – think last round in UK.

Not exactly a glorious summer’s day for the second round of the CC, and amongst the women there was some lending of warmer and waterproof clothing required, but ultimately most were more likely to be driving home in rain rather than playing in it.

Women

After what must have been one of the lowest turnouts for a club championship, the 6 who made both rounds should be congratulated for doing so. Conditions not being great in either week.

They say the cream always rises to the top and after a struggle last week Silvia has prevailed, defending the Club Championship. She notched up 4 birdies in her round but also a couple of 8s to peg her lead back and rather surprisingly only beat Sheena by 1 shot in the gross. However, her 86 was 3 shots better than on Prince’s last week (89). Sheena’s almost the reverse with 89 today and 87 last week.

In the nett competitions, the first round leads were maintained through the second round with Susan on 142, 3 shots ahead of Sheena for the Handicap Cup and Doreen on 155 ahead of Jenny by 7 shots for the Pembroke Cup.

Men

In the net for the day, Ben Dickey crafted a well-deserved and consistent 64 with 2 birdies; chasing him 2 shots back was Richard I with a nice birdie at 18. Seymour followed with a fighting 68.

In the scratch senior division, Roger r maintained his first round form with 77 for a 36 hole total of 148 – 9 clear of nearest rival Chris S 154, Aidan was 3rd 157 and Richard O 4th 157. Well done indeed Roger Club Champ!!

The junior division resulted in a 3-way tie on 183 : Nigel W, Duncan and Brian R. They have a playoff over 18 holes to decide winner. [On 2nd September Brian won with 78 to Duncan’s 89 with Nigel NRing; well done indeed to Brian with such a super sub-80 score ] Julian and Cuneyt followed the threesome 185.

Following precedent from last year, the Handicap Trophy (net 2 rounds) has separate trophies for the divisions.
Well done again to Roger winning senior division 127 from Richard O 135; Duncan wins junior 139 from Seymour 140 and Tony K 141.

A mild, slightly humid day with just a 10 minutes spell of very light rain and very occasional sunshine. Recent rain earlier in the week provided softer fairways and more receptive greens.

The clear winners in the 2 best scores/hole team competition were the team comprising Veronica, Joan, Rannesh & Richard with 89 points. All team members played their part with individual scores ranging between 29 and 36 points, a very impressive 48 points on the front 9 (never less than 5 points/hole) but then a falling away on the back 9. Tied on 85 points in 2nd and 3rd places were two all-men teams, with Rob, Justin, John and Tom beating Bill, Colin, Barry and Bob on a back 9 countback.

Not far behind, on 82 points, were the team of Bill, Hilary, John and Adrian – they are mentioned in that order because Bill and Hilary scored 79 of the 82 points alone! Bill had the best individual stableford score in the competition (41 points) and Hilary came 2nd with 38 points. The Bill, Hilary, John and Adrian team also had the best back 9 (45 points). Sweep payout to the winning team and to Bill & Hilary.
