Despite taking a 5 shot lead into the day, neither Sheena nor Rianda could match a dazzling display of golf from Jayne Maxwell, who made par after par to record a gross 82 and win by 7 shots on 179. Sheena Harrington was runner-up on 186. Final result…

A very small field are contesting the club championship for the ladies this year, and with the rain dripping down their necks for the first half of the day, the scores reflect the conditions.

With such a small field, there is all to play for in the second round.

The annual men v ladies match – the Bontor – was held this weekend. As usual the conditions would be a major factor with the lush grass not giving the ladies their usual advantage of a running ball at this time of year. However, the strong winds looked like compensating, affecting the men’s higher shots more than the ladies and bringing the unusually dense rough into play.

Thirteen ladies suspiciously disappeared into the portacabin and some of us, knowing a little about covens, were pleasantly surprised to be greeted instead by the Sioux Smith tribe in full war paint. Most of us, having seen ladies put make-up on before, were not as intimidated by this display as the ladies had expected but hoped for Apache display from them.

Right from the first match on the first tepee, the match was hard fought and could have gone either way at any time. In a tense finish the men took the necessary scalp to win 7 to 6 and had a chance to look at the trophy for the first time in three years. Results…

We look forward to the ladies giving their all to win it back next year and the men are eager to supply suggestions as to suitable costumes most likely to distract us in 2013.

Honours Board

The Captains had kindly laid on summer for their day and a record number of ladies, for 2012, turned out to play and fight their way through the rough of RP.

Not only did she lead the day in game 1, but she also lead the scoring from start to finish and the Lady Captain, Susan Smith, managed to cut her handicap in a reduction only day for the rest of the field. With a net 72 she beat Jayne Maxwell on 74 and Jini Beacham and Sheena Harrington who were two shots further back on 76. Results…

The Captains provided entertainment on the way round for all, with 2 questions relating to captains on each hole and Susan presented each of the ladies with a gift for the day.

There was some very good scoring in difficult conditions. Danny Deprez came out of the pack to win with a 62, two ahead of Jon Cooper who returned 64 for the second week running. Paul Appleton was 3rd with 65 and Nigel Ward and Steve Byers followed one behind with 66s. Results…

In the associated Anniversary Trophy Danny leads by 8 from Paul McConnell. Best lady was Rianda Markram 6th with 70. The Ladies received 4 shots.
