Winter Comp Rd 4 / Dukes Eclectic Rd 2

Posted in Competitions

Ladies

A lovely warm (relatively) and sunny day, a welcome respite after all the recent snow and rain brought benign conditions although the greens were soggy. The winner was Jayne Maxwell with 33 points followed by Cheryl Woodhouse with 31 points who pipped Susan Smith (also with 31 points) on the back 9. Results…

This competition was played neither off the red tees nor off the ladies winter mats and so was not played on a measured course (as defined in CONGU UHS) hence it was not a qualifier for handicapping purposes.

Jayne Maxwell leads after two rounds in the cumulative Duke’s Eclectic Competition. R2 Leader board…

American Greensomes

Posted in Competitions

Paul Doran and Stewart McDonald triumphed with 40 points, five ahead of Paul Grand and Cheryl Woodhouse. Results…

The popular format of American Greensomes incorporated a first for the club – play off own tees but score using the ladies’ par and SI. Confusing for some, but the orthodox recommendation of CONGU, the national governing for handicapping in the UK, is as follows –

“……use of the Ladies’ Par and Stroke Index is recommended as this does not then require ladies to play holes than have a lower Par than CONGU would recommend. It does mean that the men will return somewhat higher scores than against their own Par however to do otherwise would militate against ladies making an appropriate contribution.”
