Dave Lawrance

Last night we heard the sad news of the death of one of our jovial members, Dave Lawrance.

It is understood that Dave had been struggling for some while with an illness. He was admitted to hospital three weeks ago and he passed away last Tuesday 13th June at the age of 60. The funeral was held today in Kingston and it was a private family affair. At short notice a few Club members were able to attend the funeral, one member being Rob Urquhart, Dave's pairs partner. I am sure that some of you would have wished to have had the opportunity to attend the funeral however I am also sure you will appreciate the family's desire for the smaller private service.

We will miss Dave's friendly sense of humour - he often seemed to have a permanent smile, even when things weren't quite going as he possibly wished. He also had something of a unique style of golf which I can only describe as ''scratch' or 'bust'. More often than not it was 'bust' but there were occasions when his 'scratch' play would be either outrageous or outstanding and this was particularly so when he competed in his pairs matches.

Dave joined us in 1988 and very soon became a keen supporter of the Club. When he was in good health he was a regular Sunday participant, playing in all weathers. He used to enjoy our invitational matches, and he also attend a few of the ladies' weekends away.

It is a gratifying thought that in the same way that Dave obviously had pleasure from being with us, we also had immense pleasure having him with us.
