2003 Association Cup

2002 | 2004

The Association Cup is a club team event run by the Association of Richmond Park Golf Clubs (ARPGC). Each of the participating clubs enters four players in teams of two. The format is a four-ball better-ball Stableford. The handicap allowance is ¾ of the playing handicap of each player.

The Association Cup is awarded to the club with the best aggregate score (of the two pairs). Additionally, the top two individual teams qualify their clubs as ARPGC's entries to the SCGU Kelso Hamilton Shield event for the following year.

This year's match is scheduled for Saturday 28th June at Richmond Park.

Last year RPGC won and Putney Park was runner up.

Result: 1st - Putney Park 79 points
2nd - Richmond Park 77 points

On a day when three of the Association's clubs failed to produce a team, the two entrants had already guaranteed a place for their clubs in next year's Kelso Hamilton Shield. The only question was who would win the Association Cup?

In their game, Peter and Toby played steady golf to take a comfortable 4 point lead at the halfway mark and the prognosis for a points lead was looking very favourable. However, their opponents moved into overdrive-plus with a healthy back 9 which included two birdies. At the end the Putney Park pair finished 3 points up with a total of 42 points.

In the game with Phil and Dave the Putney Park pair stormed to an early 6 point lead. However perseverance paid off and with the deficit being steadily eroded our paring finished one point up against their opponents.

The weather was scorching, and despite the lack of full opposition both clubs enjoyed a good friendly match.
