Ladies SPRING Weekend Away - Report
3-5 April
For the Spring weekend away this year, we went to Marriott Meon Valley Hotel and Golf Course. It was my fourth weekend away and the first dry one that I had experienced! Remarkably, we had sunny weather for all three days although it had been raining on the Saturday morning but had dried up by the time we teed off.
25 of us stayed for the weekend and Lorna joined us for dinner on Saturday night and played in the competitions on Saturday and Sunday. For the first time, our Captain Richard Owen came to see what it is all about and I hope he enjoyed it – I believe he did!
The course was beautiful with a variety of water hazards and some protective bunkers in front of the greens that tested all our golfing skills. I think a few of us lost balls in ditches and water, particularly on the 12th which was like pitching onto an upturned wok, half of which was protected by water! The scenery on the course was very lovely and the bird song and colours were beautiful.
As always, we had a variety of individual and team competitions and a sweep on Friday. There we several prize winners and the prizes were kindly bought by Veronica and Julie. Thank you both and particularly to Julie for organizing the weekend.
The overall winner of the Lockie Trophy was Anne Koychev, the runner-up was Jayne Maxwell.
For the men, the overall winner was Arthur Dolby and the runner-up was Jack Koychev.
