In this drought ridden land, we encountered more rain than we care to remember for the Ladies' Invitation held on Saturday 27th May. Despite the weather, 16 ladies invited the men of their "dreams" to play, the best turn out for several years, with some new faces joining the old stalwarts, namely, Leroy Johnson and David Keen.

The format was American Greensomes and the Duke's course was the venue. Nearest the pins were played on the 3rd for the ladies, 9th for the men and 16th for both. Bottles of something bubbly (not for the bath) were won by Graeme Syme, Leroy Johnson, Di Jackett and Cheryl Woodhouse.

The final victors were: (3/8th handicap)

• 1st  Di Jackett & Kerry Sargeant 35 pts
• 2nd  Sheena Harrington & Leroy Johnson 32pts
• 3rd  Julie Smith & Graeme Syme 31pts
• 4th  Lorna White & David Keen 29pts

Finally back at the club house a glass of wine or beer was enjoyed with "Death by Chocolate Cake" (baked by the President) and some banter about Jon Cooper's manoeuvres at the half way tea hut!!
