2015 Bontor Trophy

2014

The Bontor Trophy is the annual Men vs. Ladies singles match play event.

The two Captains go head-to-head. The remaining matches are drawn in strict handicap order.  The Captains usually play in the first game and other games go out in any order.

As in regular match play, the higher handicapper receives an allowance of the full difference between the handicaps of the two players. The handicaps shall be adjusted if necessary for any stroke allowances that may be relevant for mixed competitions (click here for details). Any shots are taken against the Men's stroke indices.

The Bontor Trophy is awarded on the day of the event to the winning Captain (Honours Board). No further prizes are awarded, although it has been known for a Wooden Spoon to find its way to the man who loses by the largest margin.

The course and tee time are to be advised.

Match Report
Report by Paul Brown

Winners:  9-9 Draw

Brilliant sunshine welcomed thirty six competitors to this year's Men versus Ladies Bontor contest.

Last year the ladies pulled off an impressive victory and the Men's Team were clearly out to wrestle the trophy back. All games were hotly contested with much ebb and flow evident throughout proceedings.

The Captains halving the first match followed by some outstanding performances from the next five Ladies meant that the Ladies team were 4 -2 up after six matches.

During the following matches the Men made a strong fight back culminating in the Mens Team leading by 9 games to 7 with just two games to come in. Unknown to them, the final two matches had the destination of the Bontor trophy in their hands.

The Men needing half a point and the Ladies needing victory in both games to take the spoils. At this stage the signs were looking bright for the Men and ominous for the Ladies. Miraculously the last two Ladies pulled off gritty wins resulting in a pulsating 9 - 9 draw.

After a thrilling days golf the Ladies retained the Bontor Trophy for another year. The pink wrist and head bands worn by the Ladies team clearly had worked their magic! Well done to the Ladies.

A big thank you to the 18 Ladies and 18 Men who gave their time to represent their teams. A truly fierce contest played in great spirit and with terrific camaraderie.
