Stroke Allowance

In those events where both the ladies and men are competing, commonly known as joint competitions, a stroke allowance must be made for the differences in the respective standard scratch scores between the ladies’ course and the men’s course. The stroke allowance is ‘given to’ or 'deducted from' the ladies' handicap.

Notes and explanation
- For medal events the ladies’ extra shot allowance is derived from the higher standard scratch score of the ladies’ card as compared with the men’s card.
- For Stableford events the ladies’ extra shot allowance (or
reduction) is derived from the difference between the SSS and Par for
the men’s and ladies’ cards.
For example:
Princes - on the White tee course, if a man plays to his handicap and scores a net 68 (SSS) then with a Par of 69 he will score 37 points in Stableford. If a lady has an equivalent net 71 (SSS) then with a Par of 71 she will have a score of 36 points - hence the lady shall receive a one shot allowance.
Dukes – on the White tee course, if a man plays to his handicap and scores a net 70 (SSS) he will score 35 points in Stableford where the Par is 69. A lady playing to an equivalent net 71 (SSS) will score 37 points where her Par is 72, hence the lady's adjustment will be -2.
