Ladies SPRING Weekend Away - Report
24-26 March
The Ladies' Weekend Away to the New Forest was a very successful event despite the relentless rain for the duration of our stay.
The Bell Hotel was very welcoming. We all agreed that the staff were very helpful, friendly and the food pretty good. New faces joined the old stalwarts and there were some guests of members who were at home with the Richmond Park golfers.
After rounds of golf in soggy conditions, the place to be was
reminiscing by the open fire in the bar, especially on Saturday when both
the greens and the fairways of the golf course were flooded. In a more
balmy climate it would have been a more pleasant experience as this course
was within
"The Forest" and the ponies were sheltering from the elements. There was a
local rule to deal with the eventuality of a ball lying in their
droppings!!!
However the weather did not hinder the eventual winners of Saturday's competition with Sonia Inniss and Jack Koychev topping the list.
Sunday's golf was played on a long parkland course, which we all agreed would be very attractive in better conditions. Sunday's winners were Julie Smith and Martin Goldsworthy.
The Spring Weekend Away has a Ladies' Trophy awarded to the overall winner and this year the Lockie Trophy was awarded to Anne Koychev. She triumphantly informed us that it was the first time in 21 years of her membership of Richmond Park to receive this award.
Prizes were also presented for nearest the pin, and Saturday and Sunday team events and second and third positions.
