Summer Knockout Competitions

For 2009 the Committee decided that we should have a break from tradition and have an 'open entry' for the summer knockouts.

For the benefit of those who are new to the Club I will mention that the knockouts are matchplay events (i.e. one on one). Our Sunday events are played under 'strokeplay rules' and for the knockouts the different rules of 'matchplay' apply. Therefore if you are playing a match on a Sunday it is not possible to also enter the scheduled Sunday strokeplay event.

We are holding the competition entries open until Sunday 5th April, after which a full draw will be published immediately. It will be up to the respective opponents to make arrangements to play the first round before the close on Sunday 24th May. To assist with this process the Committee is leaving this Sunday as a simple sweep-only day and any pairing that fails to play by the due date for this first round or subsequent deadlines will be eligible for automatic disqualification.

I wish to emphasise that it is up to members who are drawn to play each other to make their own arrangements to play within the set timetable. The knockout event does not have to be played on a Sunday, indeed it is not necessary to play at the Park, however if another course is used it must be by mutual consent.

The following knockouts are now open:-

  • The J H Taylor Shield - singles matchplay - open for members with a handicap of scratch to 16. Entry list...
  • The Two Courses Cup - singles matchplay - open for members with a handicap of 17 to 28. Entry list...
  • The Men's Pairs Knockout - pairs matchplay - open to all members. Entry list...
  • The Mixed Pairs Knockout - mixed pairs matchplay - open to all members. Entry list...

Entry sheets will be available at the Park, however it will make life easier for us if you contact me directly.

Please bear in mind:-

  1. For those not yet out of winter hibernation you will need to have paid your 2009 subscription to enter the knockouts.
  2. If you know that you are unlikely to be playing much in the summer period we suggest that these events are not suitable for you this year.

As usual - if you have any queries - please don't hesitate to shout.

Regards

Peter Harrington
