Winners: The Ladies 9˝-6˝
There have been many famous and exciting events that have happened
throughout history on 10 August including: Mozart completing “Eine
Kleine Nachtmusik”, Ecuador declaring independence from Spain, Jack
Nicklaus winning the 4th PGA Championship and the Louvre opening.
However, are any more memorable that Saturday 10 August 2019 on Dukes
Course in Richmond Park Golf Club, London when on the annual men versus
ladies challenge, the ladies successfully won back the Bontor Trophy.
It was an excellent, fun and enjoyable day with 32 players who
started out after bacon rolls and coffee to face the windy, mixed
conditions and do battle. Captains Nigel Gaymond and Deborah Potter teed
off first, there were 16 matches in 8 games. Men in red and ladies in
black & white. The conditions felt more like links golf in winter than
summer in London. Cake and drinks were well-deserved afterwards as we
awaited the results with much anticipation. The final score was 6.5 to
the men and 9.5 to the ladies.
