Pairs Better Ball
Father Christmas tapped the Competitions Secretary lightly on the
shoulder, saying “Let the result stand this time”. With his partner
Cheryl on 47 points, first prize seemed in order. “But Santa, there’s
been a clear breach of Rule 31-4 [see below ***]
the CS stammered. “I know, but let it stand this time – tis the season
for goodwill and you can just make out from the smudges on the card they
marked who scored what”.
“Well OK, if you say so Santa, but next time in a pairs competition the
rule will be applied” sighed the CS.
And so, Phil Flanagan & Molly Hood are declared winners on a back 6
count back from Paul Grand and Cheryl Woodhouse – each pair going out in
24 and back in 23. In third place with best of four 46s were the
Shropshire Lad and Stanley Hunt.

*** Rule 31-4. Scoring
The marker is required to record for each hole only the gross score of
whichever partner’s score is to count. The gross scores to count must
be individually identifiable; otherwise the side is disqualified. Only
one of the partners need be responsible for complying with Rule 6-6b.

Annual Dinner Dance
It will soon be time to dust off your party gear and polish your
dancing shoes - the annual dinner dance is set for 22 January. Some
people go for the food and drink. Some people go for the music and
dancing. Some people go for the prize ceremony. A few sorry souls go for
the speeches. And some people are attracted to the wealth transfer
opportunities of the famous tombola.

The bottle of champagne first prize went to Anne Koychev with 37 points.
This included 24 pts on the front 9 with birdies at the 2nd, 4th and 7th
holes to go out in 3 under par. Though Anne scored a disappointing 13
pts on the back 9, this was enough to hold off the Lady Captain who took

Scoring was generally good in conditions of melting frost through the

also 41 on the back 9.

Fixture List Change
The Committee has published its solution to the open fixture this
Sunday. Essentially the events that had been scheduled for the following
three weeks have been moved forward one week and a new event, Aussie
Pairs, has been fixed for the 31 October slot.
Fixture List...
Aussie Pairs is a new format to the Club. Here's how it works. Played in
pairs - full handicap - score as in stableford except you work out your
PAIR score in the following manner: the lowest score of the pair goes in
the 'Tens' and the highest in the 'Units'. For example if one player
scores 4 for 3 and the other 6 for 1 the PAIR score would be 13.
Similarly if both players scored 5 for 2 the PAIR score would be 22, and
if one player scored 3 for 3 and the other blobbed the score would be
just 3. The pair with the highest score wins.

Park Closure
[15 June]
The park is closed this Sunday 20 June for the Chris Basher 10k
Memorial Run and the car park that we use for golf has been set aside
for that purpose.
The Royal Parks Agency
The golf courses will be open for play but anybody wishing to have a
round will have to walk to the pro-shop from outside the Park. The
nursery school car park on Danebury Avenue, just outside the Park, will
be available for golfers and it will be possible to walk directly to the
pro-shop from this car park.
Although the Club is not holding an event this Sunday a number of tee
slots have been set aside for those wanting a game. If you are intending
to play at the Park, it is suggested you turn up between 9:00 and 9:30.
You'll need to make up your own 4-balls.

Winter Competition Rd 8
[25 February]
The final round of the Winter Competition was played in cold and
windy conditions which clearly influenced the scoring. Three competitors
returned 35 points and matching cards placed Stuart Nash 1st from Tom

as students of Clause 19.8 might query but understand from his 1.6 not
