Conditions were atrocious on Sunday with the rain just getting heavier. The CSS reflected the adverse conditions being raised +3 to 67. However, there was some remarkable scoring with Chris Thompson the winner on 66 and earning a cut to single figures. Ed Henery, Steve Cross and Kieran Green had creditable 69s. Results...

Ladies
Due to the changes we had to incorporate into the fixture list, the Committee Cup is an 18-hole-only stableford competition this year.
The promised sun and temperatures in the low 20s never materialised, but there was some good scoring despite the conditions moving inexorably towards autumn with considerably less run on the ball. It was tight at the top with 3 shots separating the top 3 ladies. Sheena Harrington emerged the winner on 39 points followed one point behind by Susan Smith (evidently still on form from her 45 points on the Sunday of the weekend away) and Julie Smyth was third with 36 points. With full rain gear adorned and a continuous and deadly drizzle to endure, the formidable RPGC ladies - Val (Captain of the event), Susan(45er), Jayne, Doreen (Demon Putter), Maureen and Fiona successfully defeated the Mitcham Ladies by 3 nil (total aggregate score 6 nil) to regain the Annual Friendly Trophy which began in 1962.
Despite the drizzle there was only the best of hospitality -hot coffee to start and a scrumptious meal afterwards -from these friendliest of golfers the Mitcham Ladies. Long may this event continue!

Conditions must have been tricky, since unusually for the men, only 3 played below the SSS with Nigel Marsh putting in a storming performance to win by 6 shots on a net 61. In second place was Richard Own with a net 67, closely followed the Paul Grand on 68. Results...
The Captain, Jon Cooper, recorded the only two on a par 3.
Another team that won through to the area semi-final. This time the home advantage went to Hoebridge - and that is a huge advantage at the best of times there with sloping and elevated greens. The advantage was even bigger on the day with parched fairways exaggerating the slopes and borrows even more. Each match was hard fought and close - but we went down four and a half to a half. Next year the format will take much of that home advantage away and - with the strong team we can field - we should do even better.
Having fought though to the Area semi-final with two good results the team produced what had up till now been the second highest score in the country. Unfortunately it was not enough on the day but an incredibly consistent score from all the pairs home and away. We were unlucky not to have won but wish Ruislip (twice winners of the Clapham and twice runners up) good luck in the area final.

Honours Board
The President, Tim Meyer, nearly won his own competition, but was beaten by Paul Brown an Cuneyt Sazer who amassed 42 points each. Despite Cuneyt's 26 points on the front 9, he was beaten into second place by Paul Brown who had the better back 9, but who also had 3 back-to-back birdies in the front 9. Tim took third place with 40 points, ensuring that his offer to buy a drink for anyone who beat his score, was limited to just Paul & Cuneyt. With the 3 shot allowance for the men, the first placed lady was Joan Mulcahy just one shot behind on 39 points. Results...
Maureen Slade, Paul Brown and Cuneyt Sazer recorded the only twos of the day on holes 3, 5 and 5 respectively.
The nearest the pins, on the 10th, were won by Toby Hunt for the men and Nina Humphreys for the ladies. The two handicap secretaries were the winners of the 'nearest the pin in two'. Paul Grand taking this for the men on the 17th and Sheena Harrington on the 18th for the ladies. It should be noted that Sheena then took a further 4 shots to complete the hole, unlike Paul who had a far more conventional 2 putts.
Richmond Park GC Open
Honours Board
Breezy conditions prevailed but there was still exceptional scoring.
In first place was Mike Church (Putney Park) who shot two under gross for a net 60, beating Mark Jenkins on a count back. Best lady was Jayne Maxwell with 64 with ladies receiving 4 shots. Results...
A couple of eagles were recorded - Jon Cooper @ the 15th and Tony Kopczak @ the 1st which won him the NTP in two. Mike Church won longest drive and NTP on 7 and 16 with Gordon Turner PP NTP on 8 and 17 - these are shown in the body of the results sheet.
Result: 3½-2½
A most blustery day saw RPGC host Rickmansworth for the home leg of the annual friendly on "Dukes Phase 2". A new look Richmond Park 12 was nearly an 11 due to the volume of traffic on Sutton Court Road. Having overcome that initial hurdle, it was a case of tiring out the visitors with the trek to the first tee.
There were a number of close matches, and at one stage RPGC trailed 1½-2½. Our players coped better with the at-times 3-club wind, though, and won the final two matches to pip Ricky at the post.
In the associated RPGC sweep, Steve Cross and Rick Smith won, collecting a commendable 48 points.
So a repeat of the 3½-2½ score line from the last two years. However, with our new-found depth, we are optimistic that the away result of (6-0) will not be repeated! And we might manage the first overall win for several years.
The date for the away leg is 17 August.

Keep to the fairway and there would be no problems, but for many this looked to be a forlorn cause judging from the number of NRs and the occasional double-digit score recorded on many cards. It obviously didn't present a problem to Charles Ajani with a net 67. Just one shot behind on 68 was Nigel Ward. Veronica Mitchell, celebrating her birthday pipped John Ahad into 3rd place on the back 9, both with net 71s. Both Veronica and John had a run of pars on the front 9 and John still pulled off a 71 with an 11 on the 12th. Results...

JQ Robertson
Honours Board
The first Sunday of June showed signs of heralding the start of summer but the warm, wet weather of the previous weeks made the rough penal for those who strayed off the fairways.
A new signature will adorn the JQ Robertson trophy, with Alan King beating the men's handicap secretary, Paul Grand, on the back 9 with a score of 42 points. In third place, and continuing his run of form was our junior, Ahmad Al-Bader on 41 points. Results...
With the course changes and the difficulty in organising the games now, the men need to remember to add 3 shots to their scores in a stableford competition on the Duke's to take full advantage of their shot allowance (although the first lady was in 11th place).
Mid-Spring conditions prevailed with the cold north-easterly winds not encroaching from the East. The rough was punishing and all but one green (the fourth) was slow and woolly.
The early clubhouse leader appeared to be Captain Jon but scrutiny revealed marker awarding a win at 10 whereas a half was appropriate. Charles Ajani became the winner 6-up on back 9 count back from Jon. Third was first lady Susan on count back from Ken Ukoko being 5-up. Susan benefited from scrutiny where a 6 at 10 was a win not a half as awarded by marker. Ladies received 4 shots allowance. Results...

Surprisingly, the Bank Holiday weekend offered up a taste of summer although the lush grass on the fairways limited the amount of roll to the extent that CSS went up two shots to 72 for the men and 73 for the ladies.
Conditions didn't affect either Gina Jillett or Ahmad Al-Bader who both continued their good runs of form to take 1st and 2nd place respectively. Gina took the honours with a net 68 followed by Ahmad on net 70 with Steve Cross one shot further back on 71. Results...

Shaw Cup
Honours Board
An auspicious day in the life of RPGC. Following 9 years of working from our portacabin after the pavilion burnt down today saw the first event to be played from the Chohole Gate location of the new building. With the white board having been transferred across, there was a degree of comfort in being able to see the order of play, if not the first hole.
One result of the changes, was that no one was aware that the men now get 4 shots on the Duke's course in a mixed competition and that with the forward positioning of the white tee on the 16th (the old 10th) it was a par 4 from there. So the published scores for the men will be different from the ones they recorded on their cards.
The winner of the Shaw Cup and continuing his run of good form is Ahmad Al-bader with 42 points, reducing his handicap by a further 2 shots to 32. In second place was Steve Cross on 40 (if only his football team could do so well!) with Darrin Siiankowski and Nigel Ward one shot further back. Results...

The first of the year's mixed competitions was held on Saturday 13th April. Whilst not blisteringly hot it was the first of the better days of the year and the competition was fiercely fought with Nina Humphreys and Osman Chaudry missing out by one point to Jayne Maxwell and Paul Grand who scored 39 stableford points.
The rain at the end merely drove us all inside to finish the sandwiches and wine provided and we now look forward to a good turn out in May for the Ladies Invitation.
Coronation Cup
Honours Board
In early Spring conditions, competition was fierce for the Coronation Cup with good scoring generally. Indeed, there were 16 scores returned in the 60s.
The winner emerging was Darrin Siankoski with 62. Darrin kept a 6 off his card and his irons and putts were a joy to watch. Second was Susan Smith with an especially tidy back 9 crowned by a birdie on 18. In 2 weeks time that would be an eagle off the new Duke’s card – well done to Susan!
In third place was Hiro who shot the best gross – 3 over 71. Results...
On the coldest Easter Sunday on record, 28 hardy souls ventured forth to play on a very empty course.
The 3 ladies' results are not included as it is not possible to play a combined competition on a course with no SSS - but we would have needed a lot of shots to beat the winner.
As the scores seemed to get better in the later games, one can only assume that the early frozen ground didn't help - either that or the extra sleep did!
The winner was Chris Jones with 43 points, followed by John Fordham on 42. In third place with 40 points was Osman Chaudry who beat Ed Henery on the back 9. Results...
14 hardy souls turned up at the Park for a 6-6-6 sweep in occasional blizzard conditions on the Dukes course. 13 lasted the course, which remains very wet and muddy.

- Ed Henery 22 strokes on holes 7 to 12
- Ken Ukoku plus 1 bogey on holes 13 to 18
